ABOUT PENNY

Penny Drue Baird is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Rochester and holds a doctoral degree in psychology. Dr. Baird studied interior design at The New York School of Interior Design and is the Principal and Founder of Dessins LLC, an internationally renowned interior design firm with offices in NYC and Paris, France, celebrated for her top tier interior design and architectural detailing. Baird is the author of four books on Interior Design and has been named to Architectural Digest’s list of the Top 100 Architects and Designers world-wide for more than 20 years. Penny was named to the Luxe magazine Gold List and has been featured and quoted in more than 300 magazines, newspapers and books both in the U.S. and internationally.

THE DESIGN

This curved sofa clad in rough hewn logs around the exterior was designed by Baird and produced by Bespoke. “It is very unusual to add wood to a sofa design other than the leg and occasionally trim on arms, so cladding an entire sofa in wood is what makes this design unique as well as using very thick wood that is also reclaimed, giving it a dimension and a look that is entirely original.”

Baird is known for creating atmospheres filled with architectural detail, warmth, and sophisticated charm; she has a penchant for European traditions and style. She is known for her in-depth knowledge of sources, especially in Western Europe.

Baird divides her time between her offices on Madison Avenue and her outpost in Paris. Dedicated to creating highly personalized homes for her clients, Baird inspires her creativity by traveling through Paris, London and the English and French countryside in relentless pursuit of unique, fine antique furniture, objects d’art, and cutting edge new design furnishings that her clients will not see in other homes.
