ABOUT BONNIE J. STEVES:

Bonnie J. Steves is a force in the interior design industry, having worked on projects nationally and internationally. Her passion for interior design stems from her past experiences working in fashion, styling, and corporate event planning. She later moved on to work with famed interior designer and industry icon Larry Laslo. There, she was exposed to textile and licensing, which later led her to open her own firm in 2009. Bonnie is most known for creating modern, yet classical living spaces for her clients. Not only does Bonnie have an exceptional eye for detail, but she isn’t afraid to take risks with her designs, making her projects incredibly unique. Some of Bonnie’s clients include The Oscars, Tiffany & Co, Giorgio, Escada, Mattel, Nissan, Young Presidents Organization, Chrysler, and the City of Beverly Hills. Let’s take a deeper dive into one of Bonnie’s collaborations with the team at Bespoke.

ABOUT THE DESIGN:

Bonnie was asked to transform an Upper West Side apartment for a couple who recently became empty-nesters. The clients wanted to incorporate their individual styles into the design, while still making it feel like home. The goal of this design was to create as much open and personal space as possible, while preserving the natural light that came through the windows.

A major driving force in creating the direction of the design was a custom Ombre silk and wool rug that was already in the living and family room. Bonnie felt that warmer neutrals, creams, grays, and lavender in the living and family room would best accentuate the rug, and including warmer tones in the nearby rooms would create the perfect amount of contrast in the space. “Not all rooms have to be married, they have to be in a relationship”, says Bonnie about the design.

One of the biggest challenges of this design was the apartment architecture itself. In the living and family room was a curved wall, so Bonnie and the team had to create a sofa that was very specific to the curve. They added a neutral-colored sofa that curved along the wall. The sofa blended nicely with the other pieces of furniture in the room, as well as provided comfort for anyone sitting on it.

WORKING WITH BESPOKE:

Bonnie emphasizes that the collaboration with Luigi and the team at Bespoke was extremely important due to the challenges they faced while designing the space. It was critical to fulfill the design inspiration and go from paper to bringing the vision to life. She enjoyed working with Luigi who truly understands the design process and can provide a wealth of experience and knowledge. Bonnie was delighted to see that Luigi and the team are able to implement, execute, and create a vision in a way that you’ve always dreamed of. What do you think is the most interesting aspect of this design?
